Hallo, liebe Musikfreunde! Heute gibt es mal etwas aus einem Musical, nämlich Popular aus Wicked, das ich schon mal live in London gesehen habe. Damals, als man sich noch mit Hunderten von Leuten in einen engen Raum setzen und besingen lassen konnte. (Und in der Pause hab ich einen leckeren Cider getrunken!)
Wicked ist ein Musical, das auf dem Buch Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West basiert, das wiederum auf The Wonderful Wizard of Oz basiert, das als The Wizard of Oz (Deutsch: Der Zauberer von Oz) 1939 verfilmt worden ist.
Im Prinzip geht es in dem Musical um die böse Hexe des Westens, Elphaba, und wie sie so geworden ist, wie sie ist. Sie kommt grün auf die Welt, und das ist natürlich schon doof, wenn man grün ist, wenn alle anderen nicht grün sind.
Jedenfalls gibt es das Lied Popular, in dem die Mitbewohnerin von Elphaba, die überaus beliebte Galinda, ihr ein “Makeover” verpasst, damit sie auch beliebt werden kann. Wer Englisch versteht, kann sich an dem Wortwitz des Lieds erfreuen – und an Kristin Chenoweth, die das auch alles sehr witzig spielt. Elphaba wird in der Aufzeichnung unten von Idina Menzel gespielt, einer äußerst erfolgreichen Broadway-Sängerin, deren bestes Wicked-Lied vermutlich Defying Gravity ist. Das Lied Let It Go aus dem Film Frozen (“Die Eiskönigin”) hat sie auch gesungen. Da gibt es auch gewisse Parallelen.
